Karen Loving chose the University of Illinois Springfield because of the opportunities provided to students and the academic support, such as The Learning Hub. Loving is a member of the Necessary Steps Mentoring Program and a student employee for the UIS Women's Center. She appreciates how UIS prepares students for post-graduation. “What I like the most about UIS is how their whole goal is to prepare (students) for the real world and how they create many opportunities for us to break out of our shell to go explore, communicate and make connections with people,” she said. Following graduating from UIS, she plans to attend graduate school or enter the criminal justice field.
