Copyright Policy

The university and the library are committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations surrounding the use of information including copyright laws and the provisions regarding copyright in The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA).  While complying with existing laws and regulation, the library believes in vigorously defending the exceptions within these laws for education, scholarship, and the advancement of knowledge as these and the ethical use of information are critical to the educational, research, and public service mission of the university.

Collection Development Policy

The Library’s collection development policy is closely aligned with the Library’s strategic plan.  The overall goal of the Library’s collection management activities is to ensure that the Library makes the most efficient use of the resources provided to develop and manage the Library’s collection in order to meet the educational, scholarship, and university community needs.

There are three main areas of collection undertaken by Brookes Library.

Alumni Borrowers Policy

UIS Alumni are eligible for a local UIS borrowing card which can be obtained at the library circulation desk. By presenting this card they may check out any of the general circulation items for an initial loan of four weeks with three renewals, and one title from the Video/DVD collection for one week with no renewals. They may not request items through I-Share or regular interlibrary loan. Alumni can use electronic resources in person at the library, but they do not have remote access to licensed databases.

Brookens Library Cell Phone Policy

Please turn your cell phones off or set to vibrate only while you are in the Library.

Our users expect the library to be a relatively quiet place where they can study and do their research. Cell phone conversations and ring tones can be disruptive.

Cell phones may be used in the Lower Level Lounge, on the lower level, and the main stairway lounges on levels 2, 3, and 4.
