Illinois' Lauren Wiles and UIS' Danielle Dennis earn conference Player of Week accolades

Illinois and the University of Illinois Springfield softball teams are both 4-1 after the opening weekend of the spring season. Both teams already have stars emerging.

Danielle Dennis (0.529 BAVG, 1.294 SLG%) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week. The junior had quite a busy weekend at the plate totaling nine hits, four home runs, six runs, 11 RBI and one double. She was the difference maker in two wins this past weekend.

UIS debates diversity curriculum

A three-year debate about how and whether the concepts of diversity, inequality and social responsibility should be taught at University of Illinois Springfield could culminate Feb. 18.

The Campus Senate, made up of about 30 faculty and student members, will consider resolutions at that time dealing with the Engaged Citizenship Common Experience (ECCE) curriculum. The curriculum is a three-course graduation requirement for all students that has been in place for more than a decade.

UIS, Community Health Roundtable webinar to focus on local economy after two years of COVID-19

The University of Illinois Springfield Center for State Policy and Leadership and the Community Health Roundtable will host a virtual webinar titled “The Health of our Local Economy and Businesses after Two Years of the COVID-19 Pandemic” at noon Friday via Zoom.

In the webinar, a panel of experts will review the latest local economic and employment data, and report on the health of our local businesses after two years of COVID-19.

Women's Basketball: PRAIRIE STARS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT TO TIE LONGEST WIN STREAK SINCE 2010

Quincy came to town on a snowy Thursday and UIS sent them home with a 61-43 win. The Prairie Stars, led by Lauren Ladowski, won their fifth straight game, tying a record set by the 2009-2010 team when UIS went D2.

Springfield road conditions remain hazardous as snow total tops 11 inches in area

Road conditions in Sangamon County remained hazardous Thursday as Winter Storm Landon continued to dump snow on the area. More than 11 inches had fallen by Thursday afternoon.

The storm particularly created havoc with government and travel by car, train and plane.

Local highways continued to be called hazardous by police. They urged residents only to drive in case of an emergency.

Meet the record-setting star at the center of a historic UIS women's basketball season

The University of Illinois Springfield women’s basketball team surprisingly but justifiably swarmed Lauren Ladowski prior to Thursday’s tip against Quincy at The Recreation and Athletic Center.  

A pregame ceremony at midcourt presented the four-year junior guard with a plaque after nabbing the school’s all-time scoring record the previous week at Rockhurst. She beat Megan Bergerud’s mark of 1,348 points set from 2010 to 2014.
