Continuum of Learning Obtains 60 by 25 Leadership Community Status and Grant Funding

Through the work of the Continuum of Learning, Sangamon County has been named a 60 by 25 Leadership Community by Advance Illinois and Northern Illinois University Education Systems. This designation signifies a commitment from the Continuum of Learning and its county-wide partners to work locally to contribute to the larger state goal that 60% of adults in Illinois will hold a meaningful post-secondary credential by the year 2025.

Innovate Springfield, a downtown Springfield innovation and business incubator, has become part of the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) under an agreement aimed at expanding economic growth, entrepreneurship opportunities and social progress in the capital city, Chancellor Susan Koch announced today.

A 2017 report commissioned by Springfield Public Schools indicated that although black and white students as well as low-income and non-low-income students enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) courses at similar rates, black and low-income students are less likely to access the end of the course exam that can earn a student college credit.

Business Incubation at Innovate Springfield

We’re diving deeper into the details of how we approach business incubation programming and supporting the more than 80+ entrepreneurs who call iSPI their work-home. Since opening its doors, Innovate Springfield has served a total of 167 small business starters. The business incubation program at Innovate Springfield currently supports 86 members, including 26 student members either between the ages of 18-23 or life-long learners currently enrolled in a higher education program, 15 of whom attend UIS.
