UIS is once again offering a half-day Professional Development Retreat as part of our Rise initiative. This semester’s retreat will take place Friday, January 31, and is focused on Workplace Communication. All civil service, academic professional staff and faculty are welcome to attend to learn how to communicate with anyone in any circumstances in the workplace.

We are excited to announce the next installment of our Employee Development Series: Building a Positive Workplace Through Customer Service Values. Right now, too many higher education institutions do not reflect positive and proactive workplace cultures and values. This has a direct impact on the customer service experience of our student, faculty, and staff as well as our broader community.

Please joins us for the April Employee Development Session: Search Committee and Search Chair Orientation. This session will be presented by the UIS Access and Equity Office and a panel of experienced search chairs and search committee members.

Effective hiring for the university is critical to our long-term success as a learning institution that serves its students and staff well. Attracting and hiring outstanding people is the goal of every Academic Professional and Faculty search committee -- the better our search teams run, the better our faculty and staff will become.

Rise Employee Development Series

In this session, we will delve into the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it can be harnessed to significantly enhance your efficiency and productivity as an employee. Attendees will learn and explore a variety of AI tools and techniques tailored to streamline daily activities, foster innovative problem-solving, and facilitate a more efficient workflow.

This regular series offered by UIS Human Resources provided timely information and trainings to supervisors. Topics included hiring and retention tips, access and equity, FOIA, addressing employee conflict and more.

Faculty and staff heard from Chancellor Gooch, Dr. Ken Kriz and Dr. Vickie Cook about important university priorities, including budget and enrollment, and had the opportunity to ask questions of university leadership.

In response to faculty and staff feedback, UIS offered its inaugural Rise Professional Development Retreat for Civil Service/Academic Professional staff and Faculty. A multidisciplinary team of UIS colleagues developed an exciting half-day retreat focused on Workplace Wellness. Workshops offered the opportunity to understand how to challenge the culture of stress.

This kickoff event was a renewed all-employee assembly intended to kick off the new academic year together. Attendees heard from the chancellor and each vice chancellor about their goals for the 2023-24 academic year, and introductory information about our newest faculty colleagues and administrators also was shared.
