As part of the university’s NorthStar strategic visioning initiative, the University is announcing a Voluntary Separation Plan (UIS-VSP) available for all employees who meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the plan including that they have satisfied the retirement age and service requirements under the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (“SURS”) prior to August 15, 2026 and who have not provided a written notice of resignation or intent to retire from UIS prior to the Plan Effective Date.
UIS Clerical, Service and Technical Chapters of the UPI LOCAL 4100
The University received a Demand to Bargain from the Union to commence negotiations on the parties third collective bargaining agreement for the clerical, service, and technical civil service staff on April 10, 2025.
The University is committed to working with the Union to come to a fair and fiscally responsible successor agreement.
Tenure/Tenure-Track Chapter of UPI Local 4100
The parties will have their next meeting with the federal mediator on Monday, March 23, 2026.
UIS continues to believe there is progress to be made and remains committed to ongoing good-faith negotiations.
Concerning fiscal proposals, the parties have met nine times since Sept. 12, 2025, four with a federal mediator.
Employee Development Series: Annual Evaluation Training
The March installment of the Employee Development Series will be on Annual Evaluations presented by Kenzie Filchak and Drew Schlosser on March 31, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. Information from this session will be most beneficial to supervisors, but all are welcome to attend. Topics covered in this session include form functions, preparing for the evaluation discussion with employees, and avoiding evaluation pitfalls. The evaluation season will begin April 1, 2026, with evaluations due June 5, 2026.

Take Your Child to Work Day
Another round of Take Your Child to Work Day is happening April 23, 2026. We have a full afternoon planned that includes a dorm tour, exercise science activity, E-sports tour and more. We welcome up to 20 kids, aged 10-15 years old (7-9 with a parent present), to come and join us as we explore UIS.
All faculty and staff, excluding extra help (EH) workers, are required to complete the Faculty and Staff Title IX Training module - Building Supportive Communities: Clery Act and Title IX. This online course, hosted by Vector Solutions, addresses sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment in the workplace, along with current Title IX requirements. Completion of this course is mandatory for all faculty and staff and satisfies the requirements outlined in state and federal law.

We are counting down to the 2026 Retirement & Recognition Ceremony where we will come together to celebrate our colleagues as a campus community. We will celebrate our retirees for their service to the university and colleagues for milestone achievements of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service. Please consider joining us on April 7, 2026, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Student Union!
