Know Your U

The Know Your U program was launched in August 2019 as a system-wide effort to provide our dedicated employees with opportunities to learn more about the wonderful university they work so hard to support.

The program is designed to provide eligible staff with ways to discover and experience, during their normal workday, the initiatives, research, academic programs, history, and infrastructure at our universities.

Benefits & Leave

The University of Illinois Springfield offers a wide variety of benefits for faculty and staff.

Employees can choose from a number of competitive health insurance plans, a dental plan, flexible spending plans, several types of term life insurance, long term disability insurance, supplemental investment programs and additional optional offerings. Employees and their children may also be eligible for tuition waivers.

Major Administrative Searches Policy

Definition of Major Administrative Positions

This policy applies to persons occupying the roles of deans (or equivalent) and vice chancellors. However, from time to time other roles may be identified as major administrative positions and, therefore, be governed by the policies described below. The Chancellor, Provost, and the Campus Senate Steering Committee shall annually review the positions to which this policy may apply and express their mutual agreement in a letter of understanding.

Pre-Employment Physical Agility and Lifting Policy

UIS will require a physical agility and lifting test for applicable positions following a conditional offer of employment. No person shall begin working in such a position until the results of the physical agility and lifting test are received, with the exception of unusual circumstances. Given such circumstances and subject to approval by the Head of Human Resources, a candidate may be conditionally hired into a position identified as physically demanding pending the results of the physical agility and lifting test.

Preemployment Drug Screening Policy

Compliance with this policy is considered a condition of employment. UIS will rescind any conditional offer of employment if the candidate refuses to comply with required drug screening.

For applicable positions, an offer of employment is conditioned upon drug testing clearance. UIS will designate an accredited hospital/institution to conduct the drug screen. Cost for the drug screen will be borne by the employing unit. This policy does not address other circumstances that may warrant drug testing.

Background Checks

III. Individuals Covered

Except as set forth below, this Policy will be followed and criminal background checks and other applicable background checks will be conducted with respect to new hires and current employees transitioning into security sensitive or critical positions, regardless of whether the individual is seeking a position as Faculty,

Security Sensitive and/or Critical Positions

The University of Illinois requires that all individuals, who are offered employment positions deemed by the University to be security sensitive and/or critical, undergo background checks and other preemployment assessments. The University reserves the right to withdraw or rescind any offer of employment to, as well as the right to terminate the employment of, any individual who cannot successfully complete the background checks and other pre-employment assessments required for security sensitive or critical positions.
