Mission
The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) Visual Arts Gallery is a public-facing program that features exhibitions, artist engagements, and ancillary events. Our mission is to provide access to contemporary art, to foster a greater understanding of trends and topics that are at the forefront of visual art, and to strongly support the vision and message of the artists that we work with.

About the Access Gallery
The Access Gallery is run by the UIS Art Students League. The UIS ASL is a student organization developed to provide social, educational, and supportive programming and advocacy for all facets of art for the University of Illinois at Springfield and the surrounding community. Their mission is to cultivate and develop awareness of art through each individual difference to enrich our campus environment and surrounding community.
The Access Gallery gives students the opportunity to exhibit their art work.
UIS Center for Lincoln Studies, Visual Arts program looking for artists-in-residence
The University of Illinois Springfield Center for Lincoln Studies and the Visual Arts program are seeking applicants for “Making Our History: Artists Render Lincoln‘s Legacy," a remote artist-in-residency program focusing on the legacies of Abraham Lincoln.
Academic Programs
Advising
All Visual Arts students are assigned a faculty advisor upon declaration of the Visual Arts major. Faculty advisors work with students to ascertain career goals and to assess preparation and deficiencies. Our Program Advisor meets with students to make a plan of study. Students are urged to consult their advisor before registering each semester, particularly before registering for the last semester of classes.

The University of Illinois Springfield Center for Lincoln Studies (CLS) and Visual Arts Program is seeking applicants for an innovative remote artist-in-residency program focusing on the legacies of Abraham Lincoln.
Explore “Flash Point || Liminal Lost,” an art exhibition featuring works by UIS Visual Arts Program seniors
The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) is pleased to present “Flash Point || Liminal Lost,” two exhibitions showcasing works of art created by graduating seniors in the UIS Visual Arts Program. The exhibitions will open on April 26 and run through May 12, 2021. A closing remote exhibition reception will be held via Zoom from 6-7 p.m. May 13. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Face masks are required on campus.

Visual Arts Gallery Silent Auction and Benefit Exhibition
The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery Silent Auction and Benefit is moving online for 2020. The Silent Auction and Benefit, featuring original works of art donated by local and regional artists, will launch on Monday, Nov. 16 and will remain active until final bidding at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3.
Artwork up for auction can be viewed and bids can be placed online at 32auctions.com/uisvisualartsgallery.
Visual Arts Gallery presents faculty exhibition
The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present a “Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition” in conjunction with programs that celebrate UIS’ 50th anniversary. The exhibition will open on Monday, March 8, and will run through Thursday, April 15. There will be no public reception for this exhibition.
Visual Arts Gallery presents “Duet,” a mixed-media exhibit
The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present “Duet,” a mixed-media exhibit by Chicago-based artists Shir Ende and Max Guy. “Duet” will open on Tuesday, Jan. 19 and will run through Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021. There will be no public reception for this exhibition.
