BHM Trivia will be a fun and engaging way to refresh your knowledge of Black History. There will be several trivia games played with a Kahoot game at the end. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each game.
Eyes on the Prize
We will watch the two episodes from the Civil Rights Eyes on the Prize mini-movie series and engage in meaningful conversation. A small meal will be provided.
Opening Event/ Candlelight Vigil
This month is Black History Month, a federally recognized celebration of African American history and culture.
A variety of events are scheduled in the Springfield area — especially at the University of Illinois Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College — highlighting the observance that began Feb. 1.
Tuesday, Feb. 1- Step Afrika!
The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (ILBCF) and University of Illinois Springfield will convene its fourth speaker series session which will be on ILBCF's Pillar III, which focuses on eliminating the Black community's barriers to economic access, equity and opportunity.
This event will feature two current professors and researchers from the University of Colima, Mexico (UCOL). Dr. Karla Kral will examine the role of feminist activism during the fourth wave feminism and Dr. Prado-Meza will explore a group of women entrepreneurs known as the “nenis” to help recover from the economic crisis driven by the COVID 19 pandemic and the policies that ensued. Both lecturers will discuss the role of digital platforms as strategies to communicate their messages from the Southwestern State of Colima, Mexico.
