John “Jack” Stege has been named the University of Illinois Springfield Employee of the Month for April 2024. He is a building service foreman in the janitorial department.

His supervisor, Pattie Meyer, said that Stege is very enthusiastic about doing a great job.

“He takes a lot of pride in his work and truly cares about the people he serves,” Meyer said. “He continually asked employees and staff what he can do to help in any way to improve the area and is always willing to do more.”

University of Illinois Springfield Chancellor Janet Gooch wrote a column about commencement that was published by The State Journal-Register on May 3, 2024. This is a short excerpt:

"Next weekend, I'll stand on the stage of Sangamon Auditorium shaking the hands of more than a thousand University of Illinois Springfield graduates poised to start new chapters in their lives. Many of our students have jobs awaiting them, while others plan to continue their education or explore the many opportunities their degrees will unlock.

Donald Morris, a University of Illinois Springfield emeritus professor of accounting, has written a new book, “Economic Inequality: Utopian Explorations.”

The UIS Speech and Debate Team enjoyed a semester full of online, asynchronous tournaments, capped off with the Speech and Debate Showcase that was part of the School of Communication and Media’s first “COM Day” program.

Public Affairs Reporting program director Jason Piscia was honored this week with the University of Illinois Springfield's Spencer Faculty Service Award for his work in and outside the university to strengthen and serve the journalism profession.
