University of Illinois Springfield students earned awards and were elected to leadership roles during the Model Illinois Government (MIG) simulation held March 2-5, 2023, at the Illinois State Capitol and Wyndham Springfield City Centre.

Two UIS students were elected to the 2024 MIG executive board. Joel Lemmert will serve as governor and Alexander Rankin will be the speaker of the house.

Good morning!

Dear Faculty and Staff —

This was a short week for me here on the UIS campus. I was at home in Michigan on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for personal business and routine appointments. Other than meetings on Monday about graduate assistantships, enrollment, and review of tenure and promotion files, it was a day with few surprises. At the Chancellor’s cabinet, topics discussed included: student survey regarding graduation, institutional effectiveness and assessment, and audit controls regarding operational deficits.

Prompted by feedback from members of our U of I community, a system-wide group is working to add “Middle Eastern or North African (MENA)” as an option for an individual’s race or ethnicity in our University systems. The option to document “MENA” as your racial or ethnic identity in My UI Info is now available. Updates to the University’s student systems will be communicated separately at the appropriate time.
