Antonio Cardenas of Chicago has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2024 and awarded an $8,000 Star Scholar Award for tuition over four years. The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements. Cardenas will major in criminology and criminal justice. In high school, he was involved in football and swimming. “I chose UIS because of the campus lifestyle.,” he said. |

Ashlee Brown of Waverly, Illinois, a senior at Waverly High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2024 and awarded a $28,000 Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship for tuition over four years. At UIS, she plans to major in exercise science. The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements. |

The grant is from Grow Your Own Teachers (GYO) to develop a consortium aimed at addressing teacher shortages in central Illinois. The grant, titled “Future Ready Teaching: Thinking Critically, Acting Boldly and Inspiring Brilliance,” seeks to empower and cultivate a pipeline of skilled, critically minded, and committed teachers. |
