"Today the University of Illinois Springfield debuted a cutting edge facility for its esports team. It comes as the National Esports Collegiate Conference is exploding in popularity, now governing 237 American college esports teams.

"Who hasn't looked up at the night sky and pondered a thought or two?

'One of the few things we have in common (as human beings) is an experience with the night sky,' said John Martin, an associate professor of astronomy/physics at the University of Illinois Springfield. 'We experience it differently today than people did 20,000 years ago.

'What are the stages for kids growing up? It's dinosaurs first, then outer space. It's something that captures our imagination, that way."

Today’s chill in the air is a reminder of how quickly the end of Fall semester is approaching. These next couple of weeks look to be busy on campus, with Halloween and fall festivities, engaging speaker presentations, Veterans Day programming, and an Open House for prospective students. On October 3rd, 2023, students from UIS presented their historical research at the Conference of Illinois History, located at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. This research came from Dr. Peter Shapinsky’s HIS 486: Exhibiting Asia course, in partnership with the Illinois State Museum.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs have introduced a new program, “Building Research Partnerships at UIS and Beyond.” The objective is to foster connections between UIS faculty and external researchers working on similar projects.
