World-Class Teaching
The Division of Academic Affairs is committed to hiring an increasingly diverse faculty with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, improving teaching assessment and feedback systems, recognizing and rewarding high quality teaching, and investing in ongoing development of faculty efforts to integrate teaching, scholarship, outreach, and service activities. The following general goals have been developed in support of this priority:
- Invest in the design and implementation of meaningful faculty development
- Strengthen processes and institutional support for the recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, and recognition of a diverse faculty community
- Improve the assessment and feedback systems that will assist faculty in achieving, documenting, and maintaining excellence in teaching and student learning

Experience Engaged
The Division of Academic Affairs is committed to expanding current experiential learning opportunities beyond the classroom, increasing capability and practice of integrating experiential activities within courses, and assuring to the extent possible that experiential learning opportunities connect to the world beyond the campus. The following general goals have been developed in support of this Experience-Engaged priority:
- Expand and enhance experiential learning opportunities in and out of the classroom. Connect experiential learning to the world beyond UIS
- Utilize the campus and community to introduce “real world” opportunities for students to develop entrepreneurial thinking, creative interdisciplinary problem solving, and social innovation, both on campus and in the community

Personal Attention
The Division of Academic Affairs is committed to emphasizing individualized student interactions with faculty and staff, assuring classes are delivered to meet student needs, improving practices to meet the needs of a diverse student body, and partnering with other units to enrich student experience. The following general goals have been developed in support of this Personal Attention priority:
- Support student interactions with faculty and staff, both in and out of the classroom
- Develop and implement course planning and scheduling that is driven by student needs
- Empower students by providing the information and support they need to make informed decisions about their educational experience at UIS
- Partner with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) to develop integrated student life experiences that contribute to the evolution of an inclusive, diverse, and equitable learning organization

Liberal Arts Skilled
The Division of Academic Affairs is committed to strategically expanding and enhancing UIS’ liberal arts strengths to prepare students for the future, including integration of those strengths across all majors. The following general goals have been developed in support of this Liberal Arts Skilled priority:
- Integrate liberal arts strengths across majors so that all UIS graduates possess the collaborative and innovative skills known to be associated with personal growth and professional success
- Enhance and expand liberal arts strengths throughout the curriculum
