"Steve Inskeep, the 'Morning Edition' host on National Public Radio, will be in Springfield later this summer to discuss his 2023 book on Abraham Lincoln.

The Mary and James Beaumont Endowed Lincoln Legacy Lecture Series focuses on Lincoln and political conflict and takes place at the University of Illinois Springfield Student Union on Sept. 12.

"The UIS School of Education submitted a proposal and successfully received $165,000 in fiscal year 2024 and an additional $165,000 for fiscal year 2025. The grant funding is renewable annually pending legislative approval.

"Ryan Williams, a criminology and criminal justice professor at the University of Illinois Springfield, said he has seen a lot of body-worn camera videos over the last 25 years.

The video put out Monday to the public involving Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman who was fatally shot by a Sangamon County Sheriff's deputy over a pot of boiling water inside of her home on July 6, was "one of the worst," he admitted.
