UIS Center for Lincoln Studies Director Jacob Friefeld’s book earns the Caroline Bancroft History Prize

Jacob Friefeld, director of the Center for Lincoln Studies at the University of Illinois Springfield, has received the Caroline Bancroft History Prize from the Denver Public Library for “The First Migrants,” a book he co-authored with Richard Edwards. Published by Bison Books, the book examines the migration of Black homesteaders to the Great Plains from 1877 to 1920. |

The UIS Visual Arts Gallery presents “Five Miles/Twenty-Five Years” by Ahmed Ozsever

The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to announce, “Five Miles/Twenty-Five Years,” a solo exhibition by interdisciplinary artist Ahmed Ozsever. The exhibition opens Jan. 13 and runs through Feb. 6, 2025. A public reception will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 23 at the UIS Visual Arts Gallery. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. |

The alarm horns and the strobe lights will be activated intermittently as part of the test procedures to ensure all components of the system are working properly. 1.7.25 Dear Faculty and Staff: We are honored to welcome the Illinois House of Representatives to UIS on Wednesday, Jan. 8, for the ceremonial opening of the 104th General Assembly. During this historic event, all 118 House members will take their oaths of office in Sangamon Auditorium. This marks the ninth time UIS has had the privilege of hosting this prestigious ceremony. To ensure a smooth experience for the House members, their guests and other dignitaries, parking adjustments will be necessary: |
Parking Lot Closures and SMTD Bus Service - Jan. 8

Please be advised that tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, Parking Lots C-North, C-South, D, E, and the PAC Teardrop will be closed to campus for parking due to the Illinois House of Representatives Inauguration ceremony. SMTD bus service will be reduced to service only at the bus shelter next to Founders Residence Hall at Eliza Farnham and Vachel Lindsay Drive from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. |
