The Illinois Springfield baseball team secured a series-opening 6-3 victory over Indianapolis on Friday afternoon at UIS Baseball Field. The Prairie Stars improved to 3-2 in conference play behind a dominant start from Esteban Hernandez and three home runs from the offense.

The UIS softball team is set for a conference road stand in Missouri this weekend. The Prairie Stars will take on Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo., on Saturday, then Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday. Both days will feature noon doubleheaders. Illinois Springfield (14-9, 2-2 GLVC) UIS hosted Parkside for a set of midweek games after opening conference play with a 2-2 record last weekend. The Prairie Stars fell 6-1 and 8-3 to Truman on the road before defeating Quincy 20-0 and 7-5 at home.

The UIS men's golf team is set to compete in the SVSU Spring Invitational this weekend at Kearney Hills Golf Course in Lexington, Ky. The two-day tournament begins on Saturday, March 15.
