The University of Illinois Springfield is a member of the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ILSAMP) and the Louis Stokes Midwest Regional Center of Excellence (LSMRCE).
The main goal of ILSAMP and LSMRCE is to increase the number of undergraduate and graduate degrees awarded to underrepresented populations in STEM fields. To achieve this objective, UIS provides the following opportunities to support the academic success of underrepresented students:
- Information about internships at several external institutions such as the Argon National Laboratory, Fermi Lab, and the Field Museum among others
- Access to mentoring sessions with ILSAMP faculty
- Funding for participation in an ILSAMP annual research symposium and the LSMRCE conference
- Access to career exploration seminars and workshops
