Justin Castillo of Chicago, Illinois has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2024 and awarded an $8,000 Star Scholar Award for tuition over four years.

The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

Castillo will major in finance. In high school, he was involved in soccer.

Please be aware that on Tuesday, May 21, new HVAC rooftop units will be installed on the WUIS building and the Human Resources Building (HRB).  There will be a crane onsite to lift the old units off the buildings as well as to place the new units. 

The crane will be onsite at 7:00 a.m. and work will begin with the WUIS building.  The exact crane placement will depend upon the condition of the dryness of the ground.  Markers and barricades will be used to cordon off the area where the crane will be located.

Carlene Hindert has been named the University of Illinois Springfield Employee of the Month for May 2024. She is a human resources associate in the Human Resources Department.

Her supervisor, Melisa Hatch, said that Hindert is knowledgeable and resourceful.

A total of 1,625 students earned degrees from the University of Illinois Springfield at the conclusion of the spring semester on May 11, 2024, pending completion of university requirements.
