The UIS softball team battled hard in a doubleheader against Findlay on Monday in Westfield, Ind., but the Prairie Stars ultimately fell short in both games despite strong offensive performances.

The UIS baseball team dropped both games against Northwood on Monday, falling to a 3-5 overall record. The Prairie Stars hit two home runs in a 4-2 loss in the seven-inning opener, while the Timberwolves pulled away for a 12-5 win in the nine-inning series finale. Despite recording 12 hits in the second game, UIS couldn't overcome an early deficit as Northwood built a commanding lead through the middle innings.

Illinois Springfield senior outfielder Ty Hollandsworth has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Hollandsworth, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., batted .571 (4-for-7) in two games on Sunday, the first half of the Prairie Stars' series against Northwood. He posted a .625 on-base percentage and demonstrated impressive power with three home runs for a 1.857 slugging percentage. Hollandsworth drove in five runs, scoring four.

The Illinois Springfield softball team split its doubleheader against Thomas More on Sunday, falling 4-3 in the opener before bouncing back with an 11-6 victory in game two.
